New District Essay Contest for Seventh and Eighth Graders

imageIt’s back to school time and we have a new opportunity to promote Rotary’s Four Way Test with every seventh and eighth grader in District 6600.

District 6600 is pleased to announce the creation of the Four Way Test Essay Contest. This contest is targeted specifically for seventh and eighth grade students and is designed to complement the existing Four Way Test Speech Contest for high school students. Students will write an essay explaining what the Four Way Test means to them in 1,500 words or less. Those essays will be judged by local Rotary clubs to identify a winner who will compete at the District level. The overall District winner will be recognized at the District Conference in May at Sawmill Creek.

Esther Baldridge of the Lima Rotary Club is chairing the Essay contest for the District and shares, “This is a great new project for clubs to offer our seventh and eighth graders. Participating students will have an opportunity for a cash prize and the chance to interact with a local Rotary club. The Four Way Test is an integral part of Rotary and this is the perfect way to introduce those ideals into the lives of youth in our district.”

If your club is interested in participating in this year’s essay contest please:

  • Download Essay Contest information and share with club members.
  • Identify a chair for the project within your club.
  • Talk to schools now! Essays are due in February 2017 but now is the time to identify a partner teacher for the project.

All clubs are encouraged to participate in this youth focused project. If you have any questions about the contest or would like additional information, please contact Esther Baldridge.

Centennial Red and White Wine Now Available

Rotary TRF100In celebration of 100 years of doing good through The Rotary Foundation, District 6600 has commissioned Centennial Red and White Wine from Firelands Winery in Sandusky, Ohio. Please note these words from District 6600 Governor, Do Nguyen:

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

It is difficult to believe but we are already on our third production of the 100 Year Celebration Rotary Red Table Wine.

Thanks to the generosity of Rotarians in all of Ohio and especially our own District 6600, we have already received contributions enough to donate $12,000 to the Rotary Foundation.  As with our first two productions, the run is limited in number and is on a first donation, first confirm basis. As a District 6600 Rotarian you can order a case or more to use for special gifts, occasions, and even for the Holidays. Cases of wine will be delivered in September.

In addition, a new 100 Year Celebration White Table Wine is also being produced for a September delivery. We have had many Rotarians ask about white wine and we’ve listened.

YOUR contribution and request needs to be received as soon as possible as a portion of this production is also set to go to the Legacy Zone Institute in Cleveland in late in September. As important, there may not be another wine production run offered prior to the end of this year.

Please join fellow Rotarians by contributing $288 and you will receive a case (12 bottles) of either the 100 Year Rotary Celebration Red or White Table Wine with commemorative label. Delivery is included in the price for District 6600 Rotarians. Time is truly limited to take advantage of this opportunity.

Thank you, in advance, for your continued enthusiasm for our Rotary Foundation’s Centennial Year. Know that a minimum $120 donation will be made for each $288 contribution received by the District.

Yours in Rotary,

Do Nguyen District Governor 6600

District Training Assembly Coming May 14

District Training Assembly 2016

The District Training Assembly is an annual event designed to inspire incoming club leaders and to equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively lead their clubs. This session is designed for specific position holders (Presidents-Elect, Secretaries, Treasurers, Club Foundation Chairs and Club Membership Chairs) to learn with and engage district leaders and subject matter experts.  Participants will network with other Rotarians who hold similar positions in the morning and will meet by club after lunch to share and refine goals for the club prior to entering them into Rotary Club Central.  Facilitators, Assistant Governors, and other district leaders will be available to support clubs in this process. The collection of goals from each of our Rotary Clubs truly is the foundation for our District’s goals.

A District Training Assembly is also the first opportunity for most club leaders to engage the District Governor-Elect and learn about the Rotary President’s Theme for the upcoming year. We will kick off our morning on May 14 at 9 AM at the University of Findlay with a presentation about the Presidential Citation and some specific thoughts about how we might celebrate the Centennial of The Rotary Foundation as a District and sharpen our focus on membership attraction, retention and engagement. A special emphasis will be placed on Public Image and other district programs prior to break-outs for the positions listed below.  The day will conclude with a short business meeting and adjourn by 3 PM. Remember, Presidents-Elect must attend the District Business Session to vote on the District Budget!

Sessions are offered for the positions listed below. Your club leaders will have the chance to network in sessions designed only for them through teaching each other as well as learning from district subject matter experts!  NOTE: Due to space limitations, there will only be sessions offered for these club leaders.

  • President (2016-17)
    • Incoming presidents will spend additional time with our DGE, discuss questions that have arisen since PETS, and have an open forum to share concerns and solicit input from their peers. District Leaders will attend sessions with our PEs.
  • Secretaries and Treasurers
    • Members are encouraged to bring their laptop or tablet to use the online tools available to manage key activities for which they are responsible.
  • Club Rotary Foundation Committee Chair
    • May also be the member designated as the Foundation Administrative Coordinator.
    • This session is not a Foundation Seminar or a Grants Management Seminar. It is designed to help you become more effective in telling our story, inspiring giving and providing meaningful recognition to members for their support of The Rotary Foundation.
  • Club Membership Committee Chair
    • This session does not replace the Membership Seminar. It is focused on sharing best practices on member education, integration and recognition.

If you hold one of the positions above in the upcoming Rotary Year, please register HERE. In order to right size the rooms and have an accurate count for meals, please ensure that your team has registered no later than Friday, April 29 at 5 p.m.

If you have any questions about our District Training Assembly, please don’t hesitate to reach out to District Trainer Ken Robinson. Your district leadership team is excited to gather with you and your club team to enjoy great fellowship, be inspired together, and advance the mission of Rotary!

Make Your Mark in 2015

Rotary Give

There is still time to make your mark in 2015 through your support of The Rotary Foundation.  If you’d like to be reminded of how important your support is, click HERE to read the most recent blog post from Rotary International about how Rotarians have created lasting change around the world through The Rotary Foundation.

Be aware of these deadlines for your gift to be credited in the 2015 calendar year:

If making a gift by check, your donation must be postmarked by and dated no later than December 31 and received by Friday, January 8.  Mail your donation to The Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Dr., Chicago, IL 60693.  (Note that contributions postmarked after December 31 or received after January 9 will be considered January 2016 gifts. Please do not submit any gifts intended for January 2016 until January 10!)

If making a gift by credit card, visit My Rotary by December 31.  Your gift must be authorized before midnight to be credited to the 2015 tax year.  If you (or your club) wishes to make multiple gifts using a Multiple Donor Form, it must be received by 5 p.m. on December 31.  You may fax your form to 847-328-5260.  This is also a great time to commit to giving through Rotary Direct.  Enrolling online is the easiest and most secure way to support Rotary with a recurring gift. Rotary members and friends can set up Rotary Direct accounts by clicking on the Give button from any part of Rotary’s website, then choosing how to direct their donations. For a recurring gift, in Step 2 of the donation process, under Frequency, choose a monthly, quarterly, or annual gift.

As of December 28, 48 of 63 clubs in our district have contributed to the Annual Fund for a participation rate of 76%.  That’s a great achievement and amounts to nearly $91,000!.  Will you be one of the donors to move us over the $100,000 mark? Be a Gift to the World and make your year-end gift now!
