2017-2018 District 6600 Governor Announced

CheneyDeborahWith great excitement, it is a pleasure to announce that the Nomination Committee has selected Deborah Cheney of the Waterville Rotary Club to serve as District Governor in the Rotary year 2017-2018.

Deb is a native of Van Buren, Ohio. She received her degree in Elementary Education at the University of Findlay and her Masters’ Degree in Elementary Administration at the University of Dayton. Deb was an elementary teacher for over 20 years. She was the Principal of the Waterville Primary School in the Anthony Wayne District for seven years before retiring in 2011. She currently supervises Student Teachers for BGSU and the University of Toledo.

Deb is very dedicated to Rotary and Interact. She joined the Waterville Rotary Club in 2004 and served as the President of the club during 2012-2013. Deb was instrumental in forming the Interact Club at the Anthony Wayne High School. She is currently serving as the Assistant District Governor, serving the clubs of Maumee, Swanton, Reynolds Corners, Holland-Springfield and Waterville. In addition, she is also currently on the Rotary Foundation and Public Relations Committees of the Club.

Deb is also committed to her family and involvement with Waterville United Methodist Church. She and her wonderful husband Chris live in Waterville but spend a lot of time traveling to Michigan to see their daughter, son-in-law and two favorite grandsons, Blake and Landon. They also travel to Charleston, San Francisco, and Indianapolis visiting their other four children. She enjoys baking, reading, traveling, and gardening.

Interact Conference to be a Part of District 6600 Conference

This year area high schools students will be included in the District Conference as part of the Saturday programming. Students who are members of a locally sponsored Interact club are invited to register for a one-day Interact conference targeted towards the growth and development of the Interact club.

District 6600 Governor Rex Engle shared, “I felt it was important to engage our students in the largest District activity held all year long. By joining Rotarians, hearing from high-quality speakers, meeting Rotary Youth Exchange students and having time to share best practices from other Interact clubs, we can better equip these teens to make a difference in their local communities.”

The cost of the Saturday Interact conference is just $30 and includes meals, workshops and time at the Waterpark located with the Kalahari resort.

Presidential Citation Applications Due March 1st

Light Up RotaryEach year our Rotary International President issues a challenge for every club called the Presidential Citation. The challenge is a series of goals that, when met, exemplify excellence in a Rotary Club. The Citation application is reviewed by our District Governor and presented at the end of the Rotary year to those clubs meeting the qualifications outlined.

The District 6600 deadline for completed applications is due to Governor Rex Engle by March 1, 2015.

District Announces Details for Four Way Test Speech Contest

The Four Way Test is a project for students in grades 9-12 to bring the Rotary Four Way Test to life in a 5-7 minute prepared speech. The winner of your local speech contest moves on to represent your club at a District wide competition.
