Global and District Grant Projects

Rotary District 6600 is fortunate to have generous donors to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International which allows us to receive substantial amounts in return to fund many local, regional and international projects. Clubs regularly collaborate to combine forces and monies to stretch the impact.

Mongolia’s first birthing simulation center.

Development of Mongolia’s first Birthing Simulation Center to train undergraduate and graduate personnel including physicians and midwives. The center will be used by all hospitals and clinics. A VTT team of midwives will be trained in America. Eleven clubs in three districts are funding the global project of $61,500.

Safe drinking water

Providing safe drinking water to 10 rural communities in North Central Sri Lanka.

A global grant providing safe drinking water to 10 rural communities in North Central Sri Lanka. Each treatment plant was equipped with a reverse osmosis system to remove agricultural chemicals and pesticides from the drinking water. A cooperative project with the Colombo Club and 8 clubs in our District.

Chicken rearing project in Vin Thai Commune.

A chicken rearing project for the economic livelihood of 150 disabled and disadvantaged villagers in Vin Thai Commune near Hue, Vietnam. A global grant project including 3 districts and seven clubs in District 6600.

Uganda

Distributing mosquito nets in Uganda.

Distribution of mosquito nets during a malarial control project in the slums of Kawempe area of Kampala, Uganda. Malaria is the number one killer in Uganda. A club to club project making a difference.

Establishing classroom libraries throughout schools in Vietnam.

Establishing classroom libraries throughout the schools in Gio Lihn District, Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. 6,370 students and 362 educators benefited from this global grant project with participation from 2 Districts and 12 clubs.

 Food packing meals for Guatemala

Packing meals in collaboration to benefit villages in Guatemala.

A food packing of 40,000 meals in collaboration with Kids Coalition Against Hunger and Sew Hope to benefit villages in Guatemala as well as the Seagate Food Bank. Seven Rotary clubs plus Interact clubs and other students participated in the project.

A sanitation project within the Merendon Reserve, San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

130 latrines of various types were constructed in 5 villages in the region. Included with the grant is an educational component for villagers. A global grant of $197,000 with cooperation between 4 districts and 8 clubs. This is Phase One of the project We are currently seeking partners for Phase Two of $100,000.

Adding new classrooms and office space to a school in El Zapotel, San Pedro Sula.

Adding two new classrooms and office space to a school in the community of El Zapotel, San Pedro Sula. A hands-on project involving 9 Rotarians from various clubs in the District. The $15,750 project was funded with District Designated Funds (DDF) monies.

Construction of a milking parlor for the Precious Life Foundation, a program house for teenage mothers in Zimbabwe. A cooperative project with another district using DDF and club monies to fund the $10,475 project.

Purchase of a refrigerated food truck for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The truck delivers refrigerated food to 100 agencies in three counties in the North Coast area of Ohio. The new truck allows for a 40% increase in cold storage food delivery. The purchase of the truck was a combined project of 15 clubs in District 6600.
